Chemistry Test Review

My assigned question was #25.
Write the set of quantum numbers for the last electron placed for:
a) S^2-    b) Pb      c) Au     d) W     e) P    f) Ba^2

Answers:
a) (3,1,1,-1/2)
- Equivalent orbital diagram to Ar
b) (6,1,0,1/2)
c) (5,2,2,-1/2)
- Has the "d-block" exception applied
d) (5,2,2,1/2)
- Has the "d-block" exception applied
e) (3,1,0,1/2)
f) (5,1,1,-1/2)
- Equivalent orbital diagram to Xe

  1. Very good Alienor! The only thing i got different was e. I got (3, 1, 1, 1/2) because there are three unpaired electrons.

  2. I cant make a new post but here is my test review answer anyway:
    23)
    a. 590mL (.590L) X
    -55.0 degrees Celsius (218K) 30.0 degrees Celsius (303K)

    V2= (V1)(T2)/T1

    V2= (.590)(303)/218

    V2= .820L or 820 mL

    b. .1400L X
    308 K 273.15 K
    .96 atm 1 atm

    V2= (P1)(V1)(T2)/(T1)(P2)

    V2= (.96)(.1400)(273.15)/(308)(1)

    V2= .12 L

    c.
    2H2 (g) + O2 (g) > 2H2O (g)

    g of O2= 20.0g
    V of H2O=?
    P=825mmHg
    T=225 C +273.15 K= 498K

    825mmHg x 1 atm/760.0 mmHg = 1.09 atm

    20.0g O2 x 1 mol/32g x 2 mol H2O/ 1 mol O2 = 1.3 mol H2O

    (use ideal gas law> PV=nRT)

    V=(1.3 mol H2O)(.0821Latm/molK)(489 K)/1.09atm
    V=48.8 L H20

  3. Alienor, did you mean 4.88 L H2O?
